The basics
TikSwoop is a browser tool for saving public TikTok videos. You paste a post link, the server resolves the post, and the file is streamed back to your browser. There is no account, no app, no extension and no paid tier.
The site is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by TikTok or ByteDance. TikTok is a trademark of its owner; we use the name only to describe what the tool works with.
FAQ
- Is TikSwoop free?
- Yes. There is no paid tier and no download counter to unlock. The site carries no ads, so there is nothing to click except the tool.
- Do I need a TikTok account?
- No. Public posts are reachable without an account, and the tool never signs in. A private post is out of reach by design.
- Is it safe?
- The site asks for a public link and returns a file. It does not ask for a password, an email or a login, and it loads no third-party scripts or fonts. The file itself comes from the creator's upload, so treat it like any file from the internet.
- Do you keep the videos?
- No library of files. We keep the video ID and anonymous counters. The signed media URL is held only while the file is streamed and expires within an hour.
- Do you keep a history of what I download?
- We do not build a per-visitor history. We keep aggregate operational counters and short-lived logs for abuse and outage diagnosis, not a list of your downloads.
- Why do you need my IP address?
- For rate limiting and abuse prevention. A per-IP limit is what stops one client from queueing hundreds of downloads and starving everyone else.
- Does the site use cookies?
- The language is part of the URL, so it does not need a cookie. Any essential cookie would be for security or load balancing, not advertising or tracking.
- Can I download private videos?
- No. A private or friends-only post is not visible to a logged-out browser, so it is not visible to us. If the link does not open in a private browser window, it will not work here.
- Can I download stories?
- No. Stories are not posts and are not downloaded by this tool. A story link is treated as an invalid link.
- Do you support Douyin?
- No. TikTok URLs only. A Douyin link is not a TikTok link and is rejected.
- Why does my saved video have a watermark?
- TikTok publishes a playback stream and, for many posts, a sharing stream with the logo and handle burned in. We fetch the playback stream when it exists and never edit it. If only the sharing version exists, that is the file.
- Do you remove watermarks from files I already have?
- No. That would mean editing someone else's video. We fetch a different stream from TikTok; we do not alter pixels.
- Does the higher-resolution download always work?
- No. It returns the best stream TikTok publishes for that post. If the creator uploaded lower, or TikTok re-encoded the post, the best stream is lower. We do not upscale.
- Can I get an audio file?
- When TikTok exposes the post's audio as a standalone stream and the audio capability has passed its test, yes. We do not force a converter, and we do not rip a song from the sound catalogue.
- Why did my link fail?
- Usually it is a profile link, a sound page, a deleted post, a private account, a story, a Douyin link or an expired short link. The result page names the case it detected.
- How many videos can I download?
- One per request, with a per-IP rate limit. If you hit the limit, the page tells you how many seconds to wait. There is no purchase that raises it.
- Does it work without JavaScript?
- Yes. The form posts to the server and the result is HTML. Scripts add convenience, not access.
- Does it work on my phone?
- Yes, on iPhone and Android in any current browser. The platform guides explain where the file lands on each device.
- Can I repost a downloaded video?
- Not without permission. A download is a copy, not a licence. The creator still owns the video, and reposting can infringe their rights.
- Is downloading legal?
- It depends on your jurisdiction and what you do with the file. Personal offline viewing is a different question from republishing or commercial use. For anything beyond personal use, get permission from the creator. This is not legal advice.
