How to download TikTok videos on Android

Android is the easiest place to save a TikTok file: the browser writes it to Downloads and the gallery usually picks it up. The details are in the browser and the media scanner.

The Android path

Android browsers save files to a shared Downloads folder. That folder is visible to the Files app and, after the media scanner runs, to the Gallery. There is no separate “browser library” to hunt through, which is why Android downloads feel simpler than iPhone downloads.

Two browsers matter in practice: Chrome, which is the default on most phones, and Samsung Internet, which is the default on Samsung devices. Both support the same flow. Firefox and Edge on Android behave like Chrome for this purpose.

The steps on Android

  1. Copy the post link

Open the video in TikTok, tap Share, then Copy link. Make sure you are on the post, not on the profile or a sound page.

  2. Paste into the browser

Open TikSwoop, paste the link into the field and press Download. Long-press the field and choose Paste if the keyboard's clipboard button is hidden.

  3. Wait for the result card

The server prepares the file and the card replaces the form. If the connection drops, the request is cancelled and you can start again.

  4. Tap Download video

Chrome shows a download notification and a progress bar. Samsung Internet shows a download icon in the toolbar and a completion notice.

  5. Open Downloads or Gallery

Use the Files app and open Downloads, or open the Gallery and look for the newest video. If it is missing from the gallery, the media scanner has not run yet.

Chrome vs Samsung Internet

Chrome puts downloads behind the three-dot menu, then Downloads. It also shows a notification while the file is transferring. Samsung Internet uses a dedicated download panel and may ask where to save the first time; choose Downloads or the internal storage folder you actually use.

If a download starts and then disappears, check the browser's download list before assuming the file is lost. Android can pause a download when the screen turns off or when the device switches from Wi-Fi to mobile data. Resume it from the list, or disable the battery optimisation for the browser.

If it does not work

If the download fails immediately, check whether the link is a post link. A share link from a profile or a sound page has no video stream. If the card says the post is private or unavailable, the post is not reachable from a logged-out browser; a different browser will not change that.

If the file downloads but will not play, check the file size and the extension. A few kilobytes with an .mp4 name is usually an error page saved by the browser. Delete it and retry. If the extension is .html, the request was redirected to an error page.

If the browser refuses to download at all, check that “Download over Wi-Fi only” is not enabled while you are on mobile data, and that the site is not blocked by a data-saver or ad-blocking app.

Android-specific limits

No background queue. No automatic gallery import on every launcher. No private posts. No stories. No Douyin links. Photo slideshows and audio are separate paths and appear only when that capability is available.

FAQ

Where is the Downloads folder on Android?
Open the Files app and choose Downloads, or use the browser's download list. The physical path is usually /storage/emulated/0/Download.
Why is the video not in my Gallery?
The gallery indexes new media asynchronously. Open the file once from Files, or wait for the media scanner; it does not mean the download failed.
Does Samsung Internet work the same way?
Yes. It has its own download panel, but the file still lands in the shared Downloads folder.
Can I download over mobile data?
Yes unless the browser is set to Wi-Fi only. Check the browser's download settings if a transfer starts and then pauses.
Can I save to an SD card?
Yes, if the browser is allowed to write to it. The gallery may index the card later than internal storage.
Why does the download stop when the screen turns off?
Android may pause background transfers to save battery. Keep the screen on for the few seconds the file takes, or disable battery optimisation for the browser.
