What the MP4 download is
MP4 is the container TikTok uses for the version of a video it serves to browsers and players. Inside it is usually an H.264 video track and an AAC audio track. That combination plays almost everywhere: iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, Linux, smart TVs and most editors. It is the file to choose when you do not have a specific reason to choose another row.
This page is about that file, not about a particular quality. The resolution and bitrate are whatever TikTok published for the post. We ask for the standard playback stream and hand you the bytes; we do not re-encode, upscale or edit them.
When to use it
Use the MP4 download for offline viewing, for keeping a reference copy, for importing a clip into an editor, or for sending a file to someone who does not use TikTok. It is also the right choice when you are unsure which row to pick, because it is the most compatible one.
If you need a specific audio file, a photo post, or the highest resolution TikTok published, those are separate paths. They are not the same request with a different button; each one has its own capability and its own limits.
How to download the MP4
Copy the post link
Open the video in TikTok, tap Share, then Copy link. The link must point at the post, not at the profile.
Paste it into the field
Open TikSwoop, paste the link and press Download. Full share text is accepted; the URL is extracted for you.
Wait for the card
The server resolves the post and prepares the standard stream. This usually takes a few seconds.
Save the MP4
Press Download video. The browser saves the file to its download folder. On iPhone that is Files, then Downloads.
What the file will be
You get a single MP4 file with a filename derived from the post ID and the creator's handle. The file is streamed through our server, so the signed TikTok URL never reaches your browser. The size depends on the duration and the bitrate TikTok published; a one-minute clip can be a few megabytes or several tens of megabytes.
The file will play in the browser, in a phone's default player and in common editors. If it does not, check the size first: an interrupted request can leave a small file with an MP4 name that is actually an error page.
Limits
One public post per request. No private or friends-only posts, no stories, no Douyin links. No quality upscale: the file is the stream TikTok published. No batch queue.
FAQ
- Is the MP4 file the same on every device?
- Yes. The server sends the same bytes; only the save location and the player differ.
- What codec is inside?
- Normally H.264 video with AAC audio, which is what TikTok serves to browsers. The exact streams come from TikTok, not from us.
- Can I download a photo post as MP4?
- No. A photo post is a slideshow, not a video stream. It has its own path and its own limits.
- Why is the file not 1080p?
- Because TikTok did not publish a 1080p stream for that post, or re-encoded it lower. The MP4 download does not upscale.
- Can I use the file commercially?
- Only with the creator's permission. A download is a copy, not a licence.
